Dear Mr. Fox,

DOC director Colette Peters has just informed me that showering rights have been restored on Tuesdays and Thursdays!!! Thank you and everyone else for their support. I would like to express my gratitude to Ms Peters for her interdiction in this important matter. I will be happy to email the list of administrative employees to those who need it. In Solidarity..Martina

Petition to Decrease Salaries of Oregon DOC Personnel.

Hon. John Kitzhaber
Governor of Oregon

Since October 2013, women inmates at the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville have not been permitted to shower on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The reason for this action: to save money.

All the women at the prison must work. These jobs include heavy cleaning, training service dogs, hair styling, and treating the ill in the infirmary. In addition, feminine physical cycles make showering a necessity.

The prison has a substantial number of elderly patients who live in adult diapers. They are also not allowed to shower on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The no shower policy is only enforced for women-showering is allowed everyday at the men's institutions. Such abject discrimination demeans women prisoners, is grossly unhygienic, causes stress among inmates and staff, and flatly violates civil rights and basic human decency.

Currently, 26 administrative employees of the Department of Corrections have salaries that are between $135,000~$200,000 a year. Some of these employees are former correctional officers who have no more than a high school degree. We request that you reduce these outrageous salaries by 10%, and use the windfall to restart the showers. Maintaining proper cleanliness and hygiene in prison is not a privilege, it is a right.
